Insane week. Worked really hard but managed to get very little accomplished in terms of the written word. Tracking down tips, checking things out, chasing down photos. Good grief! Have to finish two stories today somehow.

Things have been a little nutty here. Steve was packing for his two week mountain climbing trip to Colorado. Rosie is packing for her week-long Especially For Youth trip and Katelyn arrived for three days. The house is a stunning assortment of suitcases, scattered clothes, camping gear and little girl accessories.

Forgot to mention how much I enjoyed cooking with William last Sunday. He's two but he wanted to help me when I was trying a recipe for homemade crackers. I'd wanted to try them ever since I bought an antique cracker cutter in Cape Cod last fall. I picked up the cutter from a basket of cutters and knew immediately it was for making crackers and remembered I'd seen a recipe in one of my books.

So Sunday, realizing I'd forgotten to buy crackers, we decided to make them. I put the rolling pin in William's hands (he just turned 2 in May) and he picked up my motion immediately, repeating "this way and that, this way and that." It was the cutest thing. Then he used the cutter to cut out the crackers. I wouldn't let his dad take him home until one of "his" crackers was out of the oven.

The recipe is very simple - just butter, salt and milk - and the crackers were very tasty. Next time I'll roll them thinner and leave them in the oven a bit longer. I'm anxious to try it with multi-grain flour.
