Happy new year everyone. Here's hoping 2010 will be an improvement from 2009. I, for one, couldn't wait for the year to be over.
We're having friends tonight for soul food, but I'm headed to Dillard's today to try to take advantage of the sales on a few things.
Had another Pulitzer suggestion recently, this time from a state leader. Cracks me up. Wonder how many people who have actually won Pulitzer's had a tip from someone who said they could win a Pulitzer.
We had a wonderful Christmas. Waking up with Katelyn to open presents was so fun. Both babies, William and Katelyn, were so much fun to watch open presents. I got wonderful gifts for my birthday and Christmas so that was really cool. And people seemed very happy with their gifts from us so that's always a happy bonus!
Here's my sweet memories from 2009:
Breathing in the cold air from the south rim of the Grand Canyon.
Surveying God's handiwork from Grandview Arch in Canyonlands National Park.
Hearing the cacophony of wood storks on the shores of Lake Disston.
Slipping my hand into the warm blue water of the Gulf Stream.
Peering at a creature just lifted from the ocean floor some 2,500 feet below.
Feeling sound reverberating around the kayak as the shuttle lifted off in a golden arc above Mosquito Lagoon.
Slipping through electric blue water in the lagoon with manatees, dolphins and mullet glowing in the night.
Cuddling with grandchildren.
Watching the beaming face of an editor as I accepted a Gold Medal Award for Public Service.
Listening to a group of women laugh and talk as I taught them to make apple pies.
Inhaling the salty air along the coast of Cape Cod, exploring cranberry bogs.
Bobbing on the choppy waters of Pocassett Harbor in a tiny kayak.
Running fingers through the thick hair of a big Florida black bear, who slept peacefully under the influence.
Standing beneath towering cypress at the confluence of two tributaries to the St. Johns River, expecting a Timucuan to step out from behind a tree at any moment.
A golden afternoon in the woods.
Friends and family gathered close for my 50th birthday party.
Laughing in delight at seeing a covey of quail for the first time in years.
A red cockaded woodpecker dipping his head at me in the sunlight for just a moment to show off his bright red top hat.
